Top Dollar Performance as Greenbacks Made to Look Like Spent Force - And Morgan Stays

Manager Jason Cadden continued experimenting as the Brakes lined up in a 4-4-2 formation and for the opening minutes the defence was all over the place but Jon Adams clever free kick was headed over by brother Richard then Lee Moore rose highest to direct his header over onrushing Leamington keeper Paul Shepherd and the bar. United striker Jason Moore took full advantage of two ricochets to slot home past the dive of Shepherd in the 7th minute to give the home side a 1-0 lead then Brakes started to get their act together. But Steve Smith was caught out by the speed of Jason Moore bringing him down on the edge of the box which resulted in a wasted free kick for Bedworth and Shepherd came to the rescue again in the 22nd beating away a close range shot.

Skipper Josh Blake weaved some magic before sending Richard Adams out left whose deep cross was returned into the danger zone by Kristian Kelsall finding the head of Ryan Howell who headed a bullet in off the underside of the bar to level the scores at 1-1 in the 24th leaving home keeper David Clarke a spectator. Jason Moore found himself in space completely unmarked but tamely stroked his shot wide with only Shepherd to beat which proved an expensive mistake as the visitors took the lead in the 41st minute through the persistence and pace of Richard Adams forcing Clarke into a diving parry only for Blake to tap in the rebound, 1-2. The half ended with Andy Gregory leaving the field with blood coming out of a facial injury.

The second period saw Leamington well on top with Richard Adams twisting and turning before shooting narrowly over then a Rob Hipkiss free kick found Leon Morgan but Clarke was well positioned to save the header, Richards Adams turned provider and Kelsall was a yard wide of the far post with his side footed effort. In the 53rd Brakes went further ahead following another clever free kick from Hipkiss as Andy Gregory climbed high to head back across and over Clarke to see the ball nestle in the far corner of the net, 1-3, before a cracking shot from Lee Moore beat Richard Morris comprehensively to reduce the arrears, 2-3 in the 55th, and eight minutes later came the fourth goal as Morgan threaded a superb ball through the Bedworth defence for Blake to collect, dummy the keeper and slide home from close range as both sides made substitutions, 2-4 in the 63rd.

An excellent afternoon for the 121 fans but the game was spoilt by the never ending din from the nearby ‘Lark in the Park’ where the sound engineer had the volume at maximum decibels. After a shaky start, Leamington buckled down and gave a convincing performance with players eager to cover for each other, no quote was needed from Cadsey, the look on his face spoke volumes.
