Ken Jones RIP

RICHARD KENNETH ‘Ken’ JONES born Llanelli 16th April 1926, died Coventry March 2015
Ken was spotted playing for Llanelli and in October 1949 was transferred to Coventry City for a record fee for a Welsh League team at that time. Ken made his City debut at Barnsley on 15th September 1951 in front of 13,392 fans and his final match was at Highfield Road on 14th April 1956.
Ken made 83 league and 5 FA cup appearances all in the right back position for the Bantams before moving to Lockheed Leamington in the close season and was immediately made club captain. He made his Brakes debut in the 1-1 draw at home to Tamworth on 18th August 1956 playing a total of 38 league and 19 cup ties and in 57/58 37 league and 7 cup games scoring the only goal of his Lockheed career. Ken made 92 appearances and netted 1 goal.
Ken captained Brakes in the Birmingham Senior Cup final at St. Andrews beating Redditch 2-0 in 1957 and a year later at Nuneaton where Lockheed lost 1-0 to Moor Green. He joined Rugby Town who were making their first venture into Southern League football, Ken played 26 league and 6 leaguer games in 1958/59 season.
The funeral is at Canley crematorium on Tuesday 14th April and after at the Lime Tree Park Club, Templar Avenue, Tile Hill CV4 9BQ.
