TOMMY MORROW – born Nuneaton September 1944 died 24 September 2014

Sad to report the death of another Brake Tommy Morrow although he only had one season at the Windmill ground in 1966/67, it showed what a good player he was. Tommy played 21 games scoring 6 goals for Nuneaton Borough reserves in 1962/63 and by April 63, he had joined Atherstone for the rest of the extended season before linking up with the team he will be most remembered for, Tamworth Football Club.

Tommy was an old fashioned winger who also knew where the net was as his career statistics will show, in three seasons he made 151 appearances and scored 54 goals for the Lambs then made his move the Leamington in 66/67 season. In his opening 21 games he found he net on 17 occasions including a hat trick in the 8-1 drubbing of Scarborough and in the FA cup tie at the Lamb ground scored against his old club in our 4-2 defeat. Tommy made at least 41 appearances netting 26 goals for Lockheed.

Tommy returned to Tamworth in the summer of 1967 and over the next seven seasons he played a further 376 games and netted 126 times giving a grand total of 527 matches for the Lamb and banging in 180 goals. In the summer of 1975 Tommy joined Nuneaton Griff for two seasons and ended his lengthy career with Bermuda FC.

Tommy died peacefully in Myton Hospice. The funeral will be held next Monday 6th, October at the crematorium on Eastboro Way, Attleborough opposite Liberty Way.

Our sincere and deepest condolences go to wife Jill, their two sons and the extended Family and Friends from every member of the Brakes Trust and all connected with Leamington Football Club.

Tommy had two elder brothers who also graced the Windmill ground in the 1950s’, Hubert and the late Herbert, both great Brakes of yesteryear.

Grateful thanks go to the Tamworth Football Club website and RG for their valuable assistance.
