Season 1891-2

In September 1891, Leamington Football Club was founded.

Their first game was on 1 October 1891 against Queens College of Birmingham and Leamington started with a 1-0 win.

The team: Jimmy Walters in goal (he used to smoke cigars during matches); H. Welch and Charlie Welch the backs; half backs were Swann, Allen and Abell; the forwards were Bowen, Wade, Sloppy Moore, Gee and Shorter.

The following week Leamington played Gerontes of Rugby and the only changes were that Shorter dropped back to left half, Coleman came in at inside right, the Warwickshire county cricketer A.C.S. Glover was centre forward, Radcliffe was inside left and Sloppy moved out to the left wing. 'ACS' was club captain for many years.
