On 17 April 1897 at Warwick, Leamington Town defeated Rudge Whitworth in the final of the Leamington Hospital Cup 3-1 in front of a 1,500 crowd.  Mayor-Alderman Dr. Thursfield presented Leamington with the cup.  The sum of £24 went to charity.
