Brakes Beaten by BoroughCraig Farrell and Luke Warby both made debuts, and we welcome them. Craig has come in from outside the area and registered this week while Luke has been on the bench before but not been brought on. A crowd of 57 saw this one on an evening which gradually got colder with sleet driving in from the Harbury Lane end during the second half. In some ways this was a promising display from a struggling team and Wright might have given young Brakes a 5th minute lead as they made the early running. But then, as so often this season, the defence succumbed to the quick break in the 9th minute to give Borough a 0-1 lead against the run of play. And after both Powell and Mwetaminwa went close another break and some hestancy in the Brakes' defence saw the ball slipped under Morgan for 0-2 in the 23rd. To their credit Brakes kept fighting and Wright broke clear of the pursuing defence to lob the Borough 'keeper in the 32nd only to watch as the ball, agonisingly, hit the bar. Perhaps Brakes should have done better with two free kicks from good positions before the break but first McKinley then Leaver blasted over the bar. Mwetaminwa had two shots as the half drew to a close, the first blocked and the second just wide. Brakes probably had more shots on goal in this game than in several previous added together and Wright, again, had a header saved by an excellent 'keeper in the 42nd but Ward made a magnificent clearance off the line at the other end to preserve a half-time deficit at 0-2. Young Brakes' heads went down in the second-half and McKinley was rounded in the 53rd for 0-3 with an excellent goal in the 85th ending the scoring at 0-4. By this time Brakes were second to every ball as Borough threatened to run riot though the score probably flattered Borough over the 90 minutes.
