MARKET DRAYTON TOWN 2 LEAMINGTON 1 Tue 17 Apr 07
By David Hucker

After Saturday's impressive win against Loughborough Dynamo, Brakes put up a below-par performance at Market Drayton on Tuesday, finishing with ten men after Andy Gregory was sent off.

On a hard and bumpy pitch, it was end to end action from the kick-off, but gradually Market Drayton started to assert and forced a succession of corners from which Brakes were lucky not to concede a goal.

Brakes first opportunity came on 15 minutes when Josh Blake chased down the ‘keeper forcing him to concede a corner from which Towers put a shot wide.

Richard Morris came to Brakes rescue, making a good stop from Neil Edwards who had been put through by a superb pass from Tim Allen.

The match turned in the 30th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Town and Tim Allen stepped up to put the ball wide of Morris.

James Husband shot into the side netting and Towers came close with a free-kick, but it was the home side which scored again. A well-worked move down the right involving Neil Cartwright and Neil Edwards was finished by Dale Williams who headed past Morris from close range.

Brakes thought that they had pulled one back when Jon Adams’ header appeared to have crossed the line, but the referee dismissed the appeals.

Morris came to Brakes rescue again in the second half making good saves from Allen and Williams but, after Gregory’s sending-off for a second bookable offence in the 61st minute, it was an uphill struggle.

Jamie Towers gave the visiting fans hope with a penalty in the 82nd minute after the referee spotted a handball, but Market Drayton withstood the Brakes final onslaught to run out worthy winners in what was a poor game of football.

As well as Gregory’s sending off, there were bookings for Jon Adams, Ben Mackey, Morton Titterton and Jamie Towers. To add to Brakes' woes, James Husband limped off injured in the 54th minute and could be doubtful for Saturday's visit to Rocester.

With few players at their best, choosing a Man of the Match was a bit of a challenge. However, after a shaky start, Richard Morris put in a solid performance, making some good and timely saves and gets the vote.

Manager, Jason Cadden, said “I was disappointed withthe penalty decision which changed the course of the game. We turned it around in the second half and battled well with only ten men. I felt that we deserved to get something at the end and can’t blame the players for getting frustrated.”
