Fans Concerns re New Windmill Ground
In response to the recent developments regarding the possible change of the home of Leamington FC the Brakes Trust board have issued the following statement:
On Wednesday the Executive Committee of Warwick District Council met and passed a motion including a proposal that the current home of Leamington FC, the New Windmill Ground on Harbury Lane, is a site to be considered for a gypsy and travellers site in the near future and that a six week consultation will start no later than 28th February.
The Trust recognises the level of concern from a number of our members, many of whom were instrumental in the rebuilding of Leamington FC, especially considering our recent history. This presents the possibility that Leamington FC may well be forced to move home ground yet again. When the Brakes Trust was formed it was with the intention of ensuring that the football club became an asset to the community.
Opinions on the matter in hand will vary wildly and it is a cause for emotions to run high, it is important that as a fan base we all work together on any action that may be needed. As a supporters trust, we have access to information, good practice and tools that can help us in all eventualities. The Brakes Trust board has a wealth of experience in local and national matters.
The Trust has been in touch with the club over the last week and welcomes the statement from the club on the current position published Tuesday.
The Trust recognises the desire to explore opportunities to move towards a more central location with the possibility of better development. While we are encouraged by the positive intent we must also emphasise the importance of prudent caution.
The Trust understands from a district councillor with knowledge of the process, that this proposal is seen as a contributory step towards enabling a beneficial new location for the club. The details are currently confidential between the club and council, but we should know more when the District Council Local Plan is published this April.
We urge you to join the Brakes Trust and ensure that Leamington FC continues to progress both on and off the field of play.
The Trust feels that now more than ever is the time to have supporter representation on the Leamington FC Ltd board. Working together, we can strive to achieve the best outcomes for club, supporters and the community.
