Leamington FC Community Schemes: Walking for Health and Open-age Football Coaching Programme

As part of the Brakes Trust commitment to community activities and partnership with the club,  we are asking Adult Brakes Trust Members to help with a short survey about two schemes aimed at promoting physical activity while having fun:

The Walking for Health Scheme

This is a national initiative that is coordinated by Natural England. It is a network of walks across the country, where groups of individuals meet regularly to have sociable guided walks over short distances, guided by a trained walk leader. In total there are over 600 accredited Walking for Health schemes across the country. The idea behind having a Leamington FC Walking for Health scheme would be to target individuals of all ages, all with a shared interest i.e. the club. The guided walks would provide a social opportunity for Brakes fans (although anyone would be welcome) to meet regularly for a stroll and a chat. The Brakes Healthy Walks would be based at Whitnash Sports and Social Club, providing an opportunity to also benefit from a number of other sporting and social opportunities available at the club, such as petanque, table tennis, bowls and tennis – as well as a bar!

The walks programme will launch in April, but Leamington FC are looking to recruit a number of people to become trained walk leaders who would be willing to undertake a one day course, with a view to leading the walks on a weekly basis. There will also be an opportunity to undertake a first aid qualification if volunteers don’t already hold one and walk leaders would also receive a free Leamington FC waterproof jacket.

If you are interested in becoming a Walk Leader, or would like to find out more about the Brakes Healthy Walks programme including times and days, please contact Guy Rippon on 07779 269894 or email community@leamingtonfc.co.uk

Open-age Football Sessions

This is a project to provide some open-age football sessions for anyone over the age of 16. Initially we are looking to use at least one former FA qualified Leamington FC favourite to organise and take part in a weekly kickaround, which will include matches, competitions and shooting drills. These sessions will not be formal football coaching, more just an opportunity to play football at a weekly session provided by Leamington FC, with the emphasis on fun rather than ability or skill. Many adults stop playing football for a number of reasons which may include injury, other commitments, thinking perhaps they aren’t good enough for a team, fitness etc. The open-age coaching sessions we will be running will remove all of those obstacles. With the sessions being held on an ongoing weekly basis, we will be aiming them at those who don’t play for teams, and you can attend as and when you like. For those who do wish to look to play for a team, we will be happy to point you in the right direction of where you can go find a team.

How to do the survey

The survey is anAcrobat Reader pdf form than can be filled in and then emailed automatically to Leamington FC’s Community Director, Guy Rippon. You can tab between the bits to be filled in or ticked and then click the Submit Form button at the top. Alternatively you can print your filled-in form and hand it in at the club. There is a fuller description of both schemes on the form and we would like your views on them regardless of whether you wish to participate – so please take a few minutes to read and complete the survey form.
