Trust fundraising news
At the Trust-sponsored FA Cup match against Stourbridge, volunteers from Warwickshire Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Warwickshire Young Carers Project were invited to the ground to accept cheques for monies raised by the Trust.
The importance of the air ambulance in Warwickshire as a life saving service was underlined by Mandy Dahlgren, a new volunteer for the charity, who had been airlifted to hospital in a dramatic rescue after a car crash near Rugby 18 months ago.
Mandy, who was giving something back to the service as a newly appointed volunteer, accepted a cheque for £532.87 from the Brakes Trust, her first job representing the Air Ambulance.

She said: “I was a passenger and had to be cut out of the wreckage by the fire brigade. They sliced off the roof to free me. I had little idea of what was going on but heard the helicopter land in the neighbouring field and felt reassured as help was at hand. The air crew medics were brilliant.”
A sales and administration manager at First Utility, Warwick at the time, Mandy suffered back and chest injuries but was able to leave hospital after several days. “The air ambulance relies on public donations. Organisations like the Brakes Trust raising money, keeps the helicopter flying,” she added.
The money was given by those who attended the finals of the Citizen of the Year competition run by the trust in conjunction with the Courier series. Another charity to benefit was Warwickshire Young Carers’ project, which received £1001 88 as a result of CotY and a bucket collection at Warwick races. Representatives from WYCP Rachel Woodbridge and Kirsty Baxter were welcomed to the ground to receive the cheque and enjoy the second half of the match.

Councillor Adrian Barton, Mayor of Whitnash, a key member of the Brakes team managing Citizen of the Year, presented the cheques at half time during the game.
Chairman Jim Scott welcomed Adrian back to the New Windmill ground, a significant move as the mayor had contributed an enormous amount to the club before leaving due to difficult circumstances. “It is nice to meet old friends and I was happy to accept the invitation,” he said.
