Citizen of the Year 2013 Launched

The Citizen of the Year is a campaign designed to promote a happier, more optimistic frame of mind by highlighting the stories of volunteers making life more comfortable and enjoyable for others.

The Brakes Trust is holding its third competition to find that citizen, often unsung and unrecognized, who does most to brighten up the lives of people in our community.

An important aspect of the scheme is the partnership with the Courier series which supports and promotes Citizen of the Year, and for the second time in 2013 – the Young Citizen of the Year.

The aim is to inspire and excite people to take a more positive view of the future in the South Warwickshire area. Members of the public are asked to nominate the citizen / young person doing most to brighten up the lives of others.

The campaign culminates in the Citizen of the Year Gala Awards Ceremony at Guy Nelson Hall, Warwick School, on the evening of September 29th.

How do I nominate?

The easiest way is via our dedicated Citizen of the Year website – see www.citizenoftheyear.org.uk

Alternatively you can enter nominations of no more than 150 words listing the outstanding qualities of the individual by email or post. These must be marked “Coty” including the name, address, ‘phone number of the sponsor and sent to news@leamingtoncourier.co.uk or hand delivered to Courier offices at 32, Hamilton Terrace, Leamington Spa CV32 4LY no later than Monday, September 2. Any young citizen must be no older than 16 on the closing date.

Spread the message

Although we are hugely indebted to The Courier for their invaluable support, there are other ways that we can spread the message. Word of mouth is very powerful, so if you know any community groups who should know about this campaign, please let them know the web address www.citizenoftheyear.org.uk

Please also follow us on Twitter @brakestrust and Facebook /brakestrust for all the latest up-to-the-minute news.

Business Sponsorship available

We have business sponsorship available suitable for all levels of support. If you are a business owner or work in a marketing department then please contact us to discuss ways in which we could work together. The Citizen of the Year Awards is a highly positive campaign, and an association for your business will create a very strong message that you are serious about community engagement.

Why does the Brakes Trust run this?

The Brakes Trust works for the fans, for the club, and for the community. The concept of running this campaign was devised as a vehicle to forge links with our local community and do some good, whilst at the same time spreading the message about Leamington FC. It’s a win-win for all involved and there’s a great feelgood factor from the Awards as a whole.
