Citizens of the Year 2013!
CONGRATULATIONS to joint Citizens of the Year Barbara Moreton and Rosemary Kirk, who won the award as recognition of their many many years work at the Rehab Hospital. Congratulations also to Kyle Lekarla, winner of the Young Citizen of the Year Award for his work at Warwickshire Young Carers’ Project.
Once again the campaign received lots of very worthy nominations, and there was fantastic coverage in The Courier newspaper. The Gala Awards Ceremony was hosted by Dave Sharpe in the Guy Nelson Hall, Warwick School, and attendees were inspired by the stories of the assembled finalists. The evening also featured live entertainment from choir Vocal Generation, Amy Thomas, Warwick School Jazz Combo and Sorority from JayKays Dance Company. The proceeds from the evening will be split equally between the Brakes Trust, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, and Side by Side Theatre.
Nick Rogers writes:
It was a great pleasure to produce the Citizen of the Year Gala Awards Ceremony. Now in its third year, it was hosted at Guy Nelson Hall with generous assistance of the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation. The Brakes Trust initiated the awards three years ago in order to further the links between Leamington Football Club, its supporters and the community – and I think we are now a long way towards that goal.
It was especially humble to see the modesty of the finalists, in fact, in most cases, we had to make their organisations and colleague aware that they had in fact been nominated and were being celebrated at the awards ceremony. Thanks to our MC, Dave Sharpe, we discovered the dedication and sheer energy of each of the finalists, and we were well entertained by four excellent local acts: Sorority (from JayKays Dance Company), Amy Thomas, the Warwick School Jazz Combo and the Vocal Generation Community Choir. Our chosen charitable causes, Side By Side Theatre and the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were both represented and were able to introduce themselves to the audience. All in all it was a most positive and uplifting evening enjoyed by all present.

A special thanks to our sponsors for the next three years, Alsters Kelley Solicitors. (Press release CLICK HERE). And thanks too to the many many people who give their time and skills for nothing in order to make this project possible. We couldn’t do this without you!
