Copa Del NWG 2012
The first annual trophy between two crack outfits of top quality players will adorn the New Windmill Ground this Saturday 12th May 2012 @ 2pm.
Rusty Brakes vs Well Oiled XI
Who are these players, you ask? Its you!
The Brakes Trust are putting on a game of 11-a-side football on the Main New Windmill Ground pitch to allow you the fans to tread where many heroes have displayed their skills in the last 12 years. Along with some stars of the last 12 seasons at Leamington FC we want to offer the fans a chance to take part in this game which will act as a fundraiser for Brakes Trust projects, such as helping to fund the forthcoming youth team.
So, what’s it going to cost for this uniquest of opportunities? What sum of heard earned cash to show everyone that you can indeed do it better
To start the game, £10
To be the manager* for the whole game – £15
To be one of the managerial staff and sit in the dugout, dish out advice, be the physio (up to 4 places) – £10 each
To be a rolling sub for 1 half – £5
*The manager may also want to dish out his own extra charges for penalty taking, and free kicks.
We also need a ref, 2x lino’s, and if people are keen for officiating, we could even go UEFA and have touchline refs too!
We have room for a commentator/PA too.
So, what else apart from pulling on the gold and black (and whatever other colours may feature on the day)?
There will also be an award of a brand new Leamington FC 2012/13 home shirt for the ‘Player of the match’, donated by Leamington FC. This doesn’t necessarily mean the best player, but the most outstanding contribution during the game, voted on by both opposing managers.
Other stuff to be announced as we get closer, as well as guest star legends for each side. Our first guest star will be announced on Monday.
Do I have to be a brilliant player to take part?
No, this is for anyone no matter what level you play at. You can come on for a few minutes, kick the ball and run off. Just to say you’ve taken part. We don’t want to discourage anybody. There will be no ability judge.
Do I have to be male?
Nope. This is open to players of both sexes.
What about age range?
Due to FA requirements, we must ask that the minimum age for participants is at least 16 years of age to play on the pitch with other adults, however other parts have no age restrictions. However, it may be rather amusing if the referee is 5 years old.. we may say no.
Insurance
We will ask you to sign a waiver before you enter the pitch.
What will I need to bring if I am playing
Cash. Shinpads (if you haven’t got any, we can ask around for spares), shorts.
What will I need to bring if I am not playing
Cash. Friends…

What time do I need to be there and what kit do I need?
The game is due to start at 2pm, people need to get there for 1pm, to hand over their money to play, sign waivers and get the briefing chat. Bring normal gear, plus black shorts, we’re asking the club to provide us with two sets of kit for the day. Anyone ref’ing, if they can wear black where possible (or pink).
There will be food there during the day, and the bar will be open as always, so bring lots of money to spend. Also, bring your mates up to watch, more the merrier.
Latest Updates
Spoken to Davo who is arranging the kit for tomorrow afternoon, we’ll be using;
Home – Season’s gone gold and black kit – this is because we have the chance to get hold of more sizes if required
Away – Blue Joma kit
We’ll be cracking down on any sliding tackles, so please remember this, its a game to celebrate the football club, the community, the fans, the players, the ex players, vets and the season gone. Pete’s already mentioned the “brazil” pace of the game.
If you have shinpads, brilliant, if not, you’re playing at your own risk. You can probably get away with trainers/astroturf boots tomorrow, however, if you do have rubber studded boots, even better. If you have black shorts, please bring them, as we might be a little short. If you already have the current home kit/blue joma away kit – bring that along, incase we need more (and you feel more comfy wearing your own).
We’ll be having a raffle during the day too, so bring some cashage for food, drink and prizes. At the moment, prizes on the go include, Stoke Dwarf shirt signed (thanks to FA Skills team for providing this), Birmingham Ladies Tickets & Birmingham Ladies signed shirt (Thanks to Birmingham Ladies and Birmingham FA for securing this), plus more.
The programme so far includes;
10:00 til 11.30 – u14s Lions v Coundon Girls (erdington dropped out due to lack of players)
12:00 til 12.30 – u13 Brakes v u14 Brakes
14:00 til 16:00 – Main event Well Oiled Brakes v Rusty Brakes
16:00 til 17:30+ Lifting of the cup in the bar
We’ve unfortunately had to cancel the sessions we had planned for the practice pitch, due to the amount of water dropping from the sky. Hopefully we can work with the club to reschedule some of these for pre-season and make next season’s even even bigger and better with your input.
The day should be a good one, please support it, regardless if you want to play, watch, eat hotdogs all day.
