Leamington FC historical items

This week representatives from the Trust met with staff from the museum in the Pump Rooms, with regards to the display of Leamington historic items.

The Trust is currently looking after a circa 1930s shirt. This is an amazing piece and is a black and white shirt. We want this, and other items, to be seen by and shared with the town.

Peter Davis, George Sayell and Pauline Fletcher met with Museum Curator Vicki Slade. Vicki liked the shirt and advised the Trust to contact a conservator who could professionally clean and preserve the shirt. It is dirty with some ‘blood stains’. The current condition will start to decay the shirt and the Trust was advised that it is worth doing. This will cost several hundred pounds, and then the shirt will need to be framed properly, at extra cost.

When costings are available, the Trust will consider a fundraising appeal just for these items.

Next July the museum is putting on an exhibition of sporting achievement throughout the town, and the Trust will help with this. The shirt will be the centrepiece, but we will also assemble other historical artifacts to compliment it and show our rich and varied history.

This will be a good way of advertising the football club to the wider community, and may possibly become a permanent exhibit.

Do you have any interesting artifacts which could be of use for next Summer’s exhibit? Or do you fancy helping us on this project? If so, please email info@brakestrust.com
