Welcome to the Brakes Belgrade Crew!
Although we are aware that we have plenty of Brakes fan well beyond Leamington, the Brakes Trust were delighted to hear recently from four fans, Goran, Stefan, Marko and Marko, who are based in Belgrade, Serbia who have not only joined the Trust but have established themselves as “The Brakes Belgrade Crew”!
Their spokesperson Goran advises: “Our journey as Leamington FC supporters began back in 2006 when a close friend of ours returned from a trip to England with a collection of badges and pins from various football clubs. Among them, the Leamington FC badge immediately caught our attention. At the time, we didn’t know much about the club, but that moment sparked our curiosity, and we started researching and following the team’s results as much as we could.”
Although they have been following the Brakes fortunes for nearly 20 years, they have now decided to reach out to the Brakes Trust and become official supporters!! They keep in touch with the Brakes through the Trust and Club websites, social media, listen to radio commentaries and watch match highlights. In doing so, Goran enthuses: “We were especially captivated by the home atmosphere—the passionate fans, the flags, and the sense of community that radiates from the stands.” We hope one day they will be able to come over and experience that atmosphere live!
They are hoping to grow the number of followers and the Trust will be seeking to further develop links with them and support them in their endeavours to spread the word about the Brakes. Alan Turrell, Bakes Trust Member and Liaison Officer, has been corresponding with Goran for a few months now and comments: “Their initial approach certainly came as a surprise but it is very clear that they are very enthusiastic and keen to develop ties with the Trust and club and we are working on ways to do so. Publicising this support all the way from Serbia can only help raise the profile of the club further which, of course, is a key aim of the Brakes Trust”
Since being in touch with the Trust they have designed and acquired their own flag which Goran (on the right) together with Marko are proudly displaying in the photo. To reciprocate, Brakes fans have already ordered a Serbian flag that will be displayed at future games to mark this connection!
Brakes Trust Chair, Andrew Calcutt (“Boris”) commented: “It is great to know that the appeal of the Brakes stretches so far and we are delighted to welcome Goran and colleagues into the Brakes family as members of the Trust and we will be exploring how we can develop our relationship with them for mutual benefit over the coming seasons”.
The fact that the club attracts support from as far away as Serbia was indeed unbelievable to some of our followers as when the Trust released the news of this new link-up on its social media sites perfectly innocently on 1 st April, some responses suggested it was an April fool!! Well, it’s actually 100% genuine and hopefully the beginning of a long lasting relationship.
A very warm welcome to the Brakes Belgrade Crew!!
