Care UK sponsoring Saturday’s match

Care UK will be sponsoring Saturday’s match against Spennymoor, and one of the residents coming along will be Ivy Merrick, widow of Gill Merrick who played for Birmingham City and England in the Fifties.

Born in Leamington and living most of his life in Leamington / Warwick, Gill sadly passed away 4-5 years ago. Gill was in goal for Birmingham during the 1956 FA Cup Final, a match made famous by Bert Troutman braking his neck. The photo shows Gill and Bert exchanging caps after the cup final, and this will be on display in club house for the afternoon.

Brakes Trust board member and matchday PA Graham Hobbins works for Care UK locally, and will be making Ivy and guests very welcome on the day.
