Copa Del NWG 2013

Announcing the Copa Del NWG 2013…

The second annual Copa Del NWG event will take place on Saturday May 11th, which is also FA Cup Final day.

We are once again putting on a game on the New Windmill Ground main pitch which allows YOU the fans to play where many heroes have played over the last 13 years.

This year the event will be raising money for the Promotion Drive Fundraiser which will fund ground improvements for Conference North ground grading. With 30 playing places plus supporting roles available, everyone will have their chance to be part of the fun.

If you can’t make it or just want to splash some cash then why not sponsor one of the teams – you get to choose your team’s name!

FA Cup Final on big screen

After the main match the FA Cup Final will be shown on the big screen in the clubhouse, kick off 5pm. This will be a great opportunity for fans to watch the match with a good atmosphere and family friendly surroundings. And don’t worry about who the nominated driver will be, the Trust minibus will run a shuttle service back into town afterwards.

Other events

09:30 – 10:15 – Leamington Lions u15s v Coundon Court u16s
12:00 – 13:45 – Leamington Youth DS v Gordon Strachan Academy in the Community Cup
14:30 – 16:15 – Copa Del NWG 2013 – Fans Friendly, slow paced game, emphasis on celebrating – no sliding tackles (Steve Shaw still knackered from last year)
17:30 – FA Cup Final – in the bar, excuse to have a couple pints, a laugh and watch the game in a family friendly environment.
Approx 19:00 – Arthur B and the Invincibles – a popular beat combo from ex Brakes goal keeper.

During the day, fans will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Southern League Shield for a small donation.

We’ll be running a 50/50 draw during the day, again to raise cash to support the club in the promotion fund.

Adrian Barton will have his BBQ stand up there too, providing nibbles during the day.

The Fanzine will be sold at the ground, for those people who didnt get a chance to pick it up at the final game of the season. Brakes Videos Whole Matches from April and Selected Highlights DVDs will be for sale as well.

Plenty of things for everyone to do, different ways to get involved in the day, either by just turning up, watching and spending the day there, becoming a lino for the day, or if you fancy a run about on the pitch.

Sponsorship opportunities

Would you or your business like to support this community event through sponsorship? We have match sponsorship available, plus we’re also looking for raffle prizes. If you can help, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact organiser Steve Wharton on steve.wharton@brakestrust.com

Feedback from the 2012 event:

Luke Brereton – “What started as a spontaneous decision by me to go for a kickabout with the Mars Play lot culminated in the opportunity for me to feel a great sense of pride playing at the New Windmill Ground. It was a great day out for all the community, a fun and friendly atmosphere and a great game if football. I loved every minute of it!”

Nick Doyle – “Thanks very much for Saturday. One of the best days of football I’ve ever had. Played 6 a side with Jason 6 weeks ago and broke a couple of ribs. That was the first time in 20 years I had played! It did show with my shots!!”

Here’s some action from 2012

(Psst – Whilst the photos below are all finely honed male athletes – we should mention that ladies are welcome too!).

James Saunders running the line…

Dave Falp and Paul Edwards pressing forwards…

Silky smooth skills from Courier sports editor Paul Okey…

And Leamington FC Press Officer Paul Edwards…

Paul said afterwards: “I just found it great to get on the other side of the fence as it were, to experience in playing a proper game on a full size pitch for probably the first time in my life. I certainly appreciate how fit the players have to be now! It was great to play with the likes of Mozza, Jonny B, Baz Shearsby and Morts too, players we have supported from the terraces in the past, and they seemed to enjoy it as much as we did.”
