Collection for Macmillan Care Packages – Brakes v Kettering 15 Aug

Once again, the Brakes Trust will be supporting Welcome Break (Warwick M40 Services) in their project to donate care packages to Macmillan for distributing to people living locally with cancer. We are doing a collection of items needed to make up the packages at the forthcoming home game with Kettering on Saturday August 15th. Supporters (home and away) attending the match are being requested to bring any of the required items to the collection point, which will be in the clubhouse.

The list of items required and not to be included is as follows:

Items to include Please do NOT include
  • Toiletries (products should be fragrance free) e.g. bath lotions, moisturisers, hand creams, hand wash, lip balm.
  • Non-perishable foods e.g. crackers, fruit cakes, soups, pastel sweets, ginger biscuits and Drinks e.g. tea, coffee or hot chocolate (individual packets). Items must include an ingredient list and the expiry date, which should be at least 6 months away.
  • Gifts e.g. adult colouring pad and pens, puzzle books, sleep balm or pillow spray.
  • Clothing e.g. slipper socks, hats and scarves.
  • Bamboo cutlery (ideally reusable) – this helps to lessen the metallic taste some people can experience when undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Hand warmers, microwaveable heat packs.
  • Tote bags – can be useful for carrying items to hospital when receiving treatment.
  • Second-hand products
  • Sample toiletries or food items
  • Immediately perishable food or drink items
  • Food or drink items that do not have an ingredient list or expiry date at least 6 months away on the packet
  • Alcohol
  • Candles
  • Hairbrushes
  • Medications (e.g. paracetamol)
  • Hot water bottles
  • Cleaning products
  • Flammable goods
  • Tobacco
  • Products with inappropriate images or logos e.g. skull and cross bones

Following the collection, Trust members will be assembling the items into individual care packages and deliver them to the local Macmillan centre.

All donations will be most gratefully received together with any cash donations should you be unable to bring goods on the day.

This collection also coincides with Welcome Break making a significant donation, also at the Kettering game, to the Brakes Foundation for a project at Oakley School for children who need support with life skills. Together these projects demonstrate the strong relationship being developed between Welcome Break and the Club/Brakes Trust, which is much appreciated.
