Tackle prostate cancer

Leamington fans can help tackle prostate cancer this October with the FSA

Football fans across the country are being encouraged to pull together this October for a cause that goes beyond the football pitch – and Brakes supporters can play their part.

Prostate United 2026 is bringing together fans, clubs, players, volunteers and football legends to raise money and awareness in the fight against prostate cancer.

The challenge, organised by the Football Supporters’ Association in partnership with Prostate Cancer UK, asks participants to walk, run or cycle every day throughout October while raising funds to help save men’s lives.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men in the UK, with around one in eight men developing the disease during their lifetime. The risk is even higher for Black men, at one in four. Every 45 minutes, a man dies from prostate cancer in the UK.

The campaign is particularly relevant to football, where supporters can use the power of their clubs and communities to encourage men to take their health seriously. Earlier diagnosis can lead to better outcomes, while money raised through Prostate United supports research, awareness and support for men and their families.

Prostate United was founded in 2018 by Stephen Gilpin and Ross Burbeary after Stephen lost his grandfather to prostate cancer. Since then, the campaign has raised more than £1.5 million and involved thousands of people from across the football community.

Former Newcastle United, Brighton and Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton is also supporting this year’s campaign after being diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer in 2025. Hughton has highlighted the importance of early detection and believes football provides the perfect platform to educate men about the disease.

For Brakes fans, getting involved could be as simple as setting yourself a daily walking, running or cycling target and encouraging fellow fans, friends and family to join you.

Participants can sign up for free, select their football club and help climb the Prostate United league table. Anyone raising £500 will also receive a limited-edition Prostate United shirt.

This October, let’s show that the Leamington FC community can make a difference both on and off the pitch – for more info go to: thefsa.org.uk/news/sign-for-prostate-united-this-october.
