The Trust Movement

Over the last year or so, the news on this website has been mainly about the Brakes Trust, what we’ve been up to, and what activities have happened for the fans. But we’d like to open it out a little, and start to bring you some more news from the wider trust movement.

The Brakes Trust is a member of Supporters Direct, the body which oversees supporters Trusts in the UK (and some in Europe). The vision is to have supporters and community at the heart of the game’s future. SD has over 250,000 members, and the movement includes 160 supporters trusts, with 20 clubs in England either supporter or community owned.

The Trust itself isn’t just a club like for former LFCSC, it is a legally formed co-operative society, and registered with the FSA. Indeed the Co-Operative support SD and the whole trust movement, and the video below shows their involvement with FC United of Manchester:

The Brakes Trust is now just over one year old, of course, but there’s a lot to be learned from other successful trusts around the UK.
